Traditional Chinese Medicine

Acupuncture originated in China over three thousand years ago. Today, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is used for preventative care, health maintenance, and treatment of disease.

TCM is based on the principle that our health is dependent on the balanced functioning of the body’s motivating energy, known as Qi (pronounced Chee). Illness is believed to be caused by an imbalance between the opposite qualities of Qi, namely yin and yang.

The body is recognized as a microcosm, comparable to the universe as a whole. Anything associated with powerful activity, openness, and aggressiveness is classified as Yang, while anything more obscure, quiet, or passive is classified as Yin. Although Yang is associated with masculinity and Yin with femininity, each person has both Yin and Yang energy within his or her body.

Practitioners of TCM are not looking for symptoms in isolation, but rather a total picture of the patient. A detailed understanding is required of the patient’s symptoms, past medical and family history, lifestyle, diet, emotional feelings, and many other aspects. Having decided on the cause or causes of the problem, appropriate methods of treatment are selected according to various rules governing the movement of Qi in the body.

More and more people are turning to TCM because it has been proven to be unique and effective in treating many conditions.

At Embrace the Wind Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medical treatment is offered and consists mainly of Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, and Bodywork.
